Headaches And Migraines

Recent statistics by the World Health Organization (WHO) reveal that half to three-quarters of adults between the ages of 18-65 years suffer from headaches with 30% of them having migraines. In addition to the headache itself, other associated symptoms include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blurred vision, fever, photosensitivity, and fatigue. All these can negatively affect the quality of life.

Migraine is the type of headache that is pulsating or throbbing in nature and is usually accompanied by a visual or aural aura.

causes

The incidence of headaches has been increasing steadily in recent years due to stress and anxiety associated with the modern lifestyle. While a headache can simply be due to a lack of sleep, fatigue, or muscular tension, there can also be more sinister causes of headaches like sinus infection, tumor, temporal arteritis, meningitis, hypertension, etc. Other causes of a headache include dehydration, hormonal imbalances, poor posture, and dental or eye problems.

The cause of migraines is widely unknown but it is due to abnormal brain activity which sometimes has a genetic predisposition.
